PART I HOW DO WE SEE THE WORLD

We tend to think that we see the world with our eyes and hear it with our

ears, which is normal: our perception goes through our senses �rst. Yet it

is �rst and foremost with our brain that we perceive the world.

The �ve senses and the brain obviously work together so that human

beings can indeed perceive the world. But our eyes, our ears, our tongue

and our skin are actually receptors which will transform signals re�ected

by the outside world (optical, acoustic, olfactory…) into electrical signals.

It is these thousands of electrical signals that our brain will process and

�lter, and which will enable us to mentally reconstruct the world.

الجزء الأول: كيف نرى العالم? 

نميل إلى الاعتقاد بأننا نرى العالم بأعيننا ونسمعه بآذاننا، وهو أمر طبيعي: إذ يمر إدراكنا عبر حواسنا أولًا. ومع ذلك، فإننا ندرك العالم أولًا وقبل كل شيء عبر دماغنا.

من الواضح أن الحواس الخمس والدماغ تعمل معًا ليتمكن البشر من إدراك العالم. لكن أعيننا وآذاننا وألسنتنا وجلدنا هي في الواقع مستقبلات تُحوّل الإشارات التي ينعكسها العالم الخارجي (بصرية، صوتية، شمية...) إلى إشارات كهربائية.
